St. Francis de Sales School Harina

St. Francis de Sales School, Harina

Harina is a small town in the South District of Tripura, one of the states in Northeast India. St. Francis de Sales School, Harina was taken over by the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS), with Fr. Tomy Thekkel appointed as its first Principal.

The school was originally a village school up to Class VI and was donated by Mr. Subhashis, who wished to see a good educational institution developed for the benefit of the local people. The building had earlier been constructed from the MLA fund of late Mr. Gour Kanti Goswami, a local political leader, for a Bengali medium school. When that school was later shifted elsewhere, the building became vacant.

In 2007, the property was transferred to the Fransalian Educational Society, and the MSFS Fathers undertook the responsibility of developing the institution. After necessary renovations, Fr. Tomy Thekkel made the school functional. Later, the Sisters of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) joined the mission and began assisting in the educational ministry.

In 2013, Fr. Joy Kaniyammattel succeeded Fr. Tomy and further developed the campus. Fr. James Pezhathummoottil was appointed Headmaster in 2015, and additional classrooms were constructed and inaugurated on November 13, 2016.

At present, the school has around 215 students and 12 teachers. The Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC) Sisters, who began their service on August 2, 2011, continue to assist the mission through education, pastoral work, and medical care, contributing significantly to the growth of the institution.
