“I want Missions” — these passionate words of the Founder, Peter Marie Mermier, continue to inspire the missionary dynamism of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales. Frontier evangelization, especially beyond national boundaries, remains a living expression of his original vision.
During the past 25 years, the MSFS have courageously ventured into pioneering missions in eight countries of Africa and in Papua New Guinea, carrying forward the Founder’s dream of proclaiming the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
As of 2019, the MSFS Congregation is present on five continents and in 30 countries, organized into 12 Provinces and 1 Vice Province, with around 1900 perpetually professed members, including nearly 1500 priests. The Congregation presently serves in Austria, Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Chad, Ecuador, England, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Netherlands, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, South Africa, Eswatini (Swaziland), Switzerland, St. Lucia (West Indies), Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago (West Indies), Uganda, the United States, and Zambia.
The Overseas Mission stands as a vibrant testimony to the universal spirit of the Congregation — crossing borders, cultures, and continents to share Christ’s love with diverse peoples and communities.
