About The Event
The Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales (MSFS) marked a historic milestone as they inaugurated the celebration of 50 years of their arrival in Northeast India on October 24, 2024 at SFS Campus Silapathar. The event, held with great reverence and enthusiasm, commemorates the profound spiritual, educational, and social contributions made by the MSFS community over the past five decades in the region. The event honored the transformative journey of MSFS Missionaries, whose arrival in 1975 brought educational, social, and religious change to the region. The golden jubilee celebration commenced with the flag hoisting by Most Rev. Michael Akasius Toppo, Bishop of Tezpur diocese. His Grace Most Rev. John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati presided over the Eucharistic Celebration and preached the homily. While addressing the faithful he thanked the MSFS in Northeast India for their contributions in building up Catholic communities and highlighted the profound impact the Fransalians have had on the cultural and social landscape of Northeast India. He further added that the Fransalians who arrived here 49 years ago not only brought their faith but also a deep commitment to education, healthcare, and social welfare, which have helped to shape a stronger Northeast. Most Rev. James Thoppil, Bishop of Kohima Diocese, Most Rev. Benny Varghese, Bishop of Itanagar Diocese and Most Rev. Joseph Aind SDB, Bishop Emeritus of Dibrugarh Diocese, Rev Fr Sabu Francis, Provincial of Guwahati Province and Rev Fr Thomson Aerathedathu concelebrated the Eucharistic celebration. A cultural program was staged to honor the pioneers and the dinner was served for all the attendees. The one-year-long Golden Jubilee celebration will end on October 24, 2025 at MSFS Provincial House, Guwahati.
