Education Ministry

Education Ministry

Formal education has always been a central apostolate of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales, especially in mission territories. Beyond academic instruction, education serves the mission of faith formation and becomes a fertile ground for nurturing vocations to priestly and religious life. Faced with poverty and illiteracy, missionaries recognized education as a privileged meeting point where faith and human potential converge — a space where minds are enlightened, hearts are formed, and lives are directed toward the fullness of life that Christ came to offer. Education thus becomes a powerful instrument for the integral and holistic development of the human person, created in the image of God and perfected in Christ. The Founder, Peter Marie Mermier, strongly advocated holistic formation, expressing it beautifully as the “education of the heart as the heart of education.” For the MSFS, education is not merely a profession but a sacred call to evangelization. As the MSFS Constitutions (No. 38) affirm:

“Our schools and colleges should provide means of God-experience for the students through our way of life and our commitment to Gospel values.”

Fransalian Educational Network

The global network of Fransalian institutions includes primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools. The Guwahati Province is deeply committed to this ministry, administering:

13 High Schools
3 Higher Secondary Schools
1 Technical School
And Several village schools

Most institutions clearly articulate the vision and mission of Fransalian education. Many schools conduct remedial classes and tuition centres to support academically weaker students. Regular animation programmes on child rights and prevention of abuse are organized for selected teachers across the Province.

Towards a Unified Educational Vision

The Province is actively working to bring all SFS schools under a common platform in terms of policies and programmes. Teacher training and academic empowerment initiatives are being implemented through common resource persons. A standardized lesson plan is in the process of implementation, and province-level teacher training programmes have been conducted in selected regions.

Inter-SFS cultural and sports events, along with Province-level Students’ Olympiad and Teachers’ Olympiad, have already strengthened unity and healthy competition among institutions. A common service rule for teachers is also being initiated.

To enhance administrative efficiency, many schools have adopted a unified school management software, Desalite Connect, which has significantly streamlined operations and improved overall system effectiveness.

Through this comprehensive and value-driven educational mission, the Province continues to shape young minds and hearts — forming competent individuals, responsible citizens, and faith-filled leaders for the Church and society.
