Don Bosco School, Hamren
In 1975, when the land was formally donated to the mission, Fr. Albano D’Mello, SDB, with the help of the villagers of Langkar’om, Umrinti, and Ambinong, cleared the jungle and built a temporary shed to start a school. Thus, in 1976, the school officially began under the care of Sojong Parish.
However, after the transfer of Fr. Albano in 1978, the mission faced difficulties and the school eventually stopped functioning. The land once again turned into jungle until 1986, when Most Rev. Mathai, Bishop of Diphu, during his visit to Hamren, encouraged the reopening of the school at the request of the local people.
Responding to the Bishop’s invitation, Fr. Albano D’Mello returned and, with the generous support of the villagers, cleared the land and rebuilt a temporary school structure. Mr. Longsing Tiso and many others contributed significantly to this effort, helping realize the dream of establishing a good English Mission School in Hamren.
Over the years, the school has grown into a Secondary School and has become a pride of the town. The first batch of students appeared for the public examination in 2001, and since then many batches have successfully graduated. Today, the school has around 800 students, 24 teachers, and 6 non-teaching staff, and its alumni are well placed in various fields, serving as an inspiration to the younger generation.
