Fransalian Communication – Narengi
Communication Ministry of the MSFS Guwahati Province
Recognizing the vital role of communication in evangelization, the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales established a media and communication centre at the MSFS Provincial House in Narengi, Guwahati. The initiative aims to strengthen pastoral ministry and promote the proclamation of the Gospel through modern means of communication.
Foundation and Early Development
Fransalian Communication was formally established on August 15, 2005, with Fr. Jiji Konthananickal appointed as its Founder Director. The office was initially located at SFS Bhavan, Sreenagar, Dispur.
Under his leadership, the centre played a significant role in enhancing pastoral ministry across Northeast India. Various programmes and training initiatives were organized, including:
Media training courses
Teachers’ training programmes
Videography and photography workshops
Fr. Jiji also distinguished himself as a skilled photographer and videographer. During his tenure, Fransalian Communication produced several videos and documentaries, including a documentary on the Northeast India Province titled “Hand on Heart.” He served as Director until 2011.
Growth and Expansion
On May 27, 2012, Fr. Shaibu Ezhanikattu was appointed as the Director of Fransalian Communication. A major milestone was achieved on February 9, 2013, when a new media studio equipped with modern facilities was inaugurated. The studio includes:
Voice recording facilities
Photography studio
Video editing suites
Preview theatre
Media storage and stock room
The studio was blessed by John Moolachira, Archbishop of Guwahati.
Media Ministry Today
In the present age, media ministry plays an increasingly important role in evangelization. Especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, digital platforms became essential for pastoral outreach. Through online media, the centre helped facilitate the transmission of:
Holy Mass
Recollections
Annual retreats
Various pastoral programmes
Fransalian Communication continues to support the Church’s mission by using modern communication tools to spread the message of the Gospel and to strengthen pastoral and educational ministries across the region.
