Fransalian Counselling Centre – Lengpui
The Fransalian Counselling Centre at Lengpui is an initiative of the Missionaries of St. Francis de Sales aimed at providing spiritual guidance, counselling, and pastoral support to people in Mizoram and the surrounding regions.
Origin of the Centre
With the opening of the Sateek Mission, the Province began exploring possibilities to acquire land for the future needs of the mission. Permission was obtained from the bishop with the understanding that the property would be used for formation or social ministry. Eventually, a suitable piece of land was purchased near Lengpui Airport in Mizoram. The property was fenced but remained unused for several years.
In April 2015, the Provincial Administration sent Fr. Francis Thadathil to Mizoram to explore the possibility of establishing a centre dedicated to spiritual guidance and counselling services.
Establishment
After exploring different possibilities, a house belonging to the MSMHC Sisters at Lengpui became available for use by the MSFS. The Provincial Administration completed the necessary arrangements, and Fr. Francis moved into the house on July 3, 2015, the feast of St. Thomas the Apostle.
However, the house was in a dilapidated condition and required significant repair and renovation. It took nearly a month of cleaning, repairs, and painting to make the building suitable for living and ministry.
Mission and Purpose
The Fransalian Counselling Centre was envisioned as a place where people could receive spiritual accompaniment, counselling, and personal guidance. The centre seeks to respond to the growing social and personal challenges faced by individuals and families today.
The need for such a centre has become increasingly evident due to the rise of issues such as:
Marriage and family conflicts
Drug addiction and substance abuse
Emotional distress and depression
Suicide and mental health struggles
Through its services, the centre hopes to provide healing, hope, and spiritual renewal to people from all walks of life, regardless of faith or background.
A Ministry of Hope
The establishment of the Fransalian Counselling Centre has generated great interest among the local Catholic community. Efforts are also being made to collaborate with lay leaders to strengthen this new ministry.
By offering a welcoming space for reflection, counselling, and spiritual growth, the centre seeks to open new avenues for evangelization and pastoral care, helping individuals rediscover meaning, peace, and faith in their lives.
